# Why is my company not cited by AI?

## The short answer

AI assistants name businesses they can find, understand and trust. If any of those is missing, AI is likely to name someone else.

## 1\. AI cannot read your site

Some sites block AI crawlers in their robots.txt file, or show their content only after JavaScript runs. Either can stop an assistant from reading your pages.

## 2\. Your site does not answer the question

If a customer asks "best accountant for small businesses in Manchester" and no page on your site clearly says you do that, there, AI has nothing to match. One page per service and area helps.

## 3\. Your details do not match across the web

Different names, addresses or descriptions on your website, Google Business Profile and listings make it harder for AI to be sure they are all the same business.

## 4\. Other sites do not mention you

AI assistants lean on what others say: directories, review sites, lists and articles in your industry. If your competitors appear there and you do not, AI tends to name them.

## 5\. You have few or old reviews

Reviews are one of the signals customers and AI read. Ask every customer, not only happy ones. Google's review policy does not allow asking only happy customers or offering rewards.

## What you can check this week

-   Ask ChatGPT and Gemini who to hire or buy from in your category and city. Note who they name.
-   Read your robots.txt file and check it does not block AI crawlers you want.
-   Search your business name and check your details match everywhere.
-   Look at which sites the AI answers cite for your competitors.
